The Treatt Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship

To help develop the next generation of choral singers, the Treatt Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship allows one or more talented young singers (aged 16–19) from local schools to rehearse and perform with us for one concert. Applications are invited in September, with auditions in mid-October.

“Nurturing young talent is increasingly a focus for the Fairhaven Singers, and we’ve been very impressed by the high calibre of applicants over the years” says Musical Director Ralph Woodward. The Choral Scholar(s) will join the choir for the Lent Term, culminating in the year’s major concert, which takes place in March in one of Cambridge’s top venues, accompanied by a professional orchestra. Sharing the stage with an accomplished chamber choir and professional soloists and players should be a thrilling experience for any ambitious young choral singer.

Here’s what some past holders of the scholarship have said:

Jacob Oberholzer (bass), 2017 holder: I’ve loved being with the Fairhaven Singers this term: it was great to get more experience of fast-paced rehearsals and very challenging repertoire. It’s opened some great singing opportunities for me for next year and I hope to sing with everyone again soon!”

Polly Smith (soprano), 2017 holder: “The Fairhaven scholarship was a great opportunity to take part in an incredible concert among very skilled singers, to learn new music and to meet wonderful new people. The whole experience was really special and I won’t forget it.
