The Treatt Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship

To help develop the next generation of choral singers, the Treatt Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship allows one or more talented young singers (aged 16–19) from local schools to rehearse and perform with us for one concert. Applications are invited in September, with auditions in mid-October.

“Nurturing young talent is increasingly a focus for the Fairhaven Singers, and we’ve been very impressed by the high calibre of applicants over the years” says Musical Director Ralph Woodward. The Choral Scholar(s) will join the choir for the Lent Term, culminating in the year’s major concert, which takes place in March in one of Cambridge’s top venues, accompanied by a professional orchestra. Sharing the stage with an accomplished chamber choir and professional soloists and players should be a thrilling experience for any ambitious young choral singer.

Here’s what some past holders of the scholarship have said:

Lindsay Williams (soprano), 2018 holder: “The thing I like most is that they treat you as one of their own – even if you’re only there for a term, you become one of the team.”

Ash Peacock (alto), 2019 holder: “It’s wonderful to be able to sing an amazing variety of challenging repertoire in such a friendly and supportive atmosphere!”

Iona Woods (soprano), 2019 holder: “I really enjoy singing with the Fairhaven Singers because they make such a rich and mature sound, and it is amazing to be part of this.”
