Choral Scholarships

To help develop the next generation of choral singers, the Fairhaven Singers Choral Scholarship allows one or more talented young singers (aged 16–19) from local schools to rehearse and perform with us for one concert.

“Nurturing young talent is increasingly a focus for the Fairhaven Singers,” says Musical Director Ralph Woodward. The Choral Scholar(s) join the choir for the Lent Term, culminating in the year’s major concert, which takes place in March in one of Cambridge’s top concert venues, accompanied by a professional orchestra. Sharing the stage with an accomplished chamber choir and professional soloists and players will be an exciting experience for any ambitious young choral singer.

Here’s what some past holders of the scholarship have said:

Tom Mullock (bass), 2014 Scholar: “I had a brilliant term singing with the Fairhavens. It was a great opportunity to sing some really good music at a high level. Everyone was very friendly, and I felt like I was a part of the choir from the beginning.”

Imogen Edge-Partington (soprano), 2014 Scholar: “I found in Fairhaven it was especially good to have such an incredibly high standard of singers throughout the choir and to sing with people who are so confident of their understanding of the music.”

Amelia Cant (alto), 2016 Scholar: “Being a part of a fast-moving and highly competent group of singers is improving both my sight-singing and my technique.”
